Dali Under the Influence:

Selections from the Permanent Collection

Main Galleries 1-3

November 25 to April 23, 2006

This display of the permanent collection is presented in conjunction with the Museum’s special exhibition Pollock to Pop: America's Brush with Dalí.  Dalí was inspired by the work of other artists varying widely in time and in nature. From the Renaissance to artists born after Dal?, from painters of religious scenes to painters of still-lives, Dal? assembled a canon of artists and borrowed freely from their inventions. These artists are key to understanding what Dali admired most in painting and their work and the images they invented helped Dal? develop his own iconography. In this exhibition, important works of Dali are presented with helpful text panels that identify these influences and provide, in reproduction, a look at key works of the other artists Dal? himself had in mind.

This show was curated by Joan Kropf, Curator of the Collection.

Pollock To Pop: America's Brush With Dali is made possible by Progress Energy.  The Salvador Dalí Museum is sponsored in part by the Pinellas County Arts Council, the City of St. Petersburg, the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, and the Florida Arts Council.
